Happy New Year and a very happy birthday to me! Today is a special day, not only because it’s the start of a new year, but also because it’s my birthday. It’s a day of reflection and celebration, and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than on a road trip around Australia with my family.
We started the day off with pancakes for breakfast, a birthday tradition for me. Belle and the kids went above and beyond to make it special by making me a birthday cake. It was a sweet and thoughtful gesture and not that easy while living on the road in a caravan.
We said goodbye to our good friends in Pt Lincoln, and hit the road to Streaky Bay. Along the way, we stopped at Elliston for lunch, some fresh air and a spectacular view.
We had a surprise encounter with an old friend, Nick Clare, on the beach south of Elliston. It was great to catch up with him and hear about his adventures. I usually catch Nick in Port Fairy during the summer break but it was fun catching up on the other side of South Australia instead.
We arrived in Streaky Bay late in the day and went straight to the pub for dinner. It was crazy busy, but we managed to get some fish and chips and a cold beer. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
I feel so grateful for the memories and experiences we have shared already on this road trip, and for such a blessed family. I am looking forward to the adventures and learning opportunities that the new year will bring.
Happy birthday and Happy new year. May 2023 be full of hope and joy.
