Today was a truly unforgettable experience as we woke up to the serene and captivating beauty of the Nullarbor. The red dust and sense of remoteness was a surreal experience, as if we were the only souls for miles and miles around. It was an incredible moment, being so far away from civilization with our family of six. The brightness of the stars as we went to sleep that night were unforgettable.
As we hit the road to continue our journey across the Nullarbor, we were transported to a different world. We journeyed along the 90-mile straight, one of the longest straight roads in the world and a true marvel of engineering. This experience was both exhilarating and educational, as we were learning about the history and geography of this remarkable land.
Our adventure took us to the Madura Caves, a series of underground caves with sinkholes that were truly awe-inspiring. The dusty ride to reach the caves was worth every moment as we explored the quiet, serene landscape and took in the magnificent surroundings. Some of us were too nervous to venture inside the cave, but for those who did, it was a truly unique and educational experience.
As we drove further, we reached Norseman, marking our return to civilization. We set up camp at a free campsite and quickly headed to the public pool to cool off. It was amazing to see such a well-equipped and modern setup in the middle of the remote outback. Our kids had a blast playing on the blow-up banana and splashing around in the water.
As we settled back into camp, we had the pleasure of meeting some incredible neighbors who were seasoned travelers on the road. Their family of four had been on the road for eight months and were in no rush to return home to the Sunshine Coast. Our kids hit it off with their kids right away, playing a game of Octopus and making new friends with other kids from nearby sites. It was heartwarming to see the spirit of adventure and camaraderie among all the traveling families and hearing their stories only reinforced our decision to take this journey as a family.
