Our Family’s Camera Gear

As a family of six, we love to travel and explore new destinations. Capturing the beauty and excitement of our adventures is just as important as the memories we make. That’s why we always have our camera gear backpack packed and ready to go. In this blog post, I’ll share with you what’s in our bag and why each item is important to our travel videos.

Our Essential Flying Camera Companion

The DJI Air 2S drone is a key part of our family’s camera gear. Its compact and portable design makes it perfect for our travels, and the professional-level image and video quality it delivers allows us to capture every moment of our adventures. The Air 2S drone has long battery life, which gives us plenty of time to capture our memories from the air. The flight control is intuitive and easy to use, even for those in our family who are new to flying drones. It offers various flying and shooting modes, including ActiveTrack and QuickShots, allowing us to get creative with our shots and capture dynamic footage of our adventures. Additionally, the DJI Air 2S has obstacle avoidance technology, which gives us peace of mind and allows us to focus on capturing the perfect shot without worrying about collisions.

To make sure we can fly for longer periods of time, we bring a total of three batteries. In addition to the extra batteries, we also bring ND filters to control exposure and prevent over-exposure in bright conditions. We make sure to bring spare propellers and joysticks, as well, so that we can quickly replace any parts that may become damaged during flight. All of these components as well as the drone are neatly organized in a wearable, padded bag that keeps our gear safe and secure during walks and drives.

Capturing Every Angle: The GoPro Hero 11

The GoPro Hero 11 is another essential part of our camera gear when it comes to ground-level filming. Its compact and versatile design makes it perfect for our adventures, and its durability and waterproof feature make it ideal for capturing footage in any environment.

Equipped with various settings and features, the Hero 11 allows us to capture the exact footage we need for any type of activity. With the help of its 3 enduro batteries, we can film continuously for up to 90 minutes on each battery, making it an ideal camera for long days of filming.

To ensure we’re always prepared for any filming scenario, we have several kits of accessories that we bring along. Our main GoPro case houses two spare batteries and a dual charger, allowing us to quickly switch out batteries when we need to. We also keep a waterproof and floating handle in the case for underwater shots, and spare mounting screws for easy set-up. Additionally, we have a separate case that includes a head strap and a chest strap, as well as a tripod and a selfie stick, which are perfect for hands-free POV filming and timelapses.

Overall, the GoPro Hero 11 is one of our most versatile and most used cameras. Its small size and advanced features make it an ideal camera for capturing every moment of our adventures on land and in the water.

Essential Accessories for Smooth Filming

To ensure that our camera gear runs smoothly and continuously during our travels, we use a range of essential accessories. These include portable batteries, USB drives, 12V aux power outlet to USB, extra cables, and a micro SD card adapter.

We always bring a portable battery with us to charge any devices that need charging, especially our phones so that we can view the drone camera and access the GoPro from the app. We also bring extra cables to ensure that we can always connect the charger to the device and can transfer footage. In addition, we have a micro SD card adapter and some USB drives so that we can transfer footage from the SD cards to the USB drives on-the-go.

Moreover, we use the 12V outlet to recharge camera gear in the car on the way to the next filming location. These accessories play a crucial role in ensuring that all of our camera gear runs smoothly and can continue to run no matter what happens. With these essential accessories, we can focus on capturing the perfect shot and creating unforgettable memories.

From Hikes to Beaches: Camera Gear for Every Filming Location

Having the right camera gear accessories is certainly essential to ensure smooth and continuous camera operation during travels. However, equally important is choosing the right camera gear for each filming location based on factors such as location, weather, and activity. In this section, we will explore different types of filming locations, such as a hike to the top of a mountain, a trip to the beach, and a lookout over a cliff. We will detail the camera gear we would pack for each specific example and offer tips and tricks we’ve learned from our experiences filming in these locations.

For a hike to the top of a mountain, we typically take the GoPro camera with a handle and spare batteries. If the wind speed is low enough, we’ll also take the drone with two batteries. We keep the camera gear light to allow for water and food in the hiking backpack.

When going to the beach, we take the GoPro with spare batteries and a tripod for shots with the whole family in them. We take the drone if the wind speed is under 35km/h and the beach isn’t crowded. We also check AirMap to make sure we are allowed to fly the drone.

For a lookout over a cliff, we take the drone with all batteries and accessories for cinematic drone shots. We also take the GoPro for any ground or POV shots to give a sense of scale to the scenery.

Always check the weather and wind speed before taking the drone. Bring extra batteries and external power banks if possible, and check if flying the drone is allowed in the area by checking AirMap. Use ND filters to reduce the amount of light coming into the camera on the drone. This helps to keep the footage looking smooth without increasing motion blur and adding overexposure. Use an organized bag to store and carry all camera gear and accessories to prevent damage and ensure everything is easily accessible.

It’s important to be prepared with the right camera gear for each filming location. By considering factors like weather, time of day, and activity, we can make sure we have everything we need to capture the best shots possible.
