Privacy Policy

Who we are
Road Schooling is an app that turns the places families visit into curriculum-aligned learning activities. It is run by JG Collective Co Pty Ltd (ACN 703 036 640) as trustee for the JJJH Griffith Trust (ABN 37 676 051 604), trading as Road Schooling ("we", "us", "our").
This policy explains what personal information we collect through the Road Schooling app and website, why we collect it, and how we look after it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Contact us about privacy: support@roadschooling.com.au
What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the app. Parents create the account and enter all information about their children.
- Parent account: name, email address, phone number, the curriculum you choose and a password (stored securely by Google Firebase and never visible to us).
- Child profiles: first name, year level and a chosen preset animal picture.
- Places and activity history: the place names or addresses you choose, map coordinates, what your family did there, the activities generated, completed activities and the curriculum areas covered.
- Activity requests: your description of what the family did, the output you choose (for example a poem or a model), learning focus and any extra text you add.
- Photos for assessment: a photo of your child's work and an optional description, when you use Assess Learning.
- Account and usage details: sign-up date, trial or subscription status, how many activities and searches have been used, and whether you have seen the in-app guides.
- Messages to us: your name, email and what you write when you contact us, join our tester list or message our social media pages.
We do not collect your child's surname, date of birth, photos of your child's face, or your location in the background. The app only uses a location when you pick a place.
Photos are not stored. A photo for assessment is sent for AI feedback and then discarded. Only the written feedback is saved.
Progress reports (PDFs) are created on your device and shared by you. We do not keep a copy.
How we use it
We use your information to:
- create and run your account and your children's profiles
- generate learning activities, practice tasks and ideas for places to visit
- give feedback on your child's work when you use Assess Learning
- track progress against the curriculum and show it on the map and in reports
- apply trial and subscription limits
- answer your questions and support requests
- keep the app secure and fix problems
AI processing. To create activities, ideas and feedback, we send the relevant inputs to our AI provider, Anthropic. This includes the place name or address, what your family did, the year level, chosen focus and output, and, for assessments, the photo of your child's work. We never send your name, your child's name, your email or your phone number to the AI. AI-generated content can contain mistakes, so please check activities and places before you rely on them.
We do not sell your information, use it to build advertising profiles, or use your child's information for marketing.
Who we share it with and where it is stored
We share information only with service providers who help us run the app, and only what each one needs:
- Google (Firebase and Google Cloud): sign-in, database and app servers. Receives your account, profiles and activity history. The database is in Sydney, Australia; some processing happens in the United States.
- Google Maps and Places: the map and place search. Receives place searches and map locations.
- Anthropic: the AI that writes activities, ideas and feedback. Receives activity inputs and assessment photos, with no names or contact details. Based in the United States.
- Apple App Store and Google Play: app downloads and subscription payments, under their own privacy policies. We never see your card details.
- Google Workspace: our email. Receives messages you send us.
Some of these providers process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States. We choose providers with strong security and contractual privacy protections, and take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Children's privacy
Road Schooling is designed for parents and carers to use with their children. Accounts must be created by an adult, and children do not sign up or log in themselves.
- Parents decide what information to enter about their children and can change or delete it at any time.
- We ask only for a child's first name and year level. Please don't put surnames or other identifying details in descriptions or photos.
- When photographing work for assessment, photograph the work only, not your child.
- Each family's data is private to that account. Other users can't see it.
If you believe a child has given us information without a parent's involvement, contact us and we will delete it.
How long we keep it and how to delete your account
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your account, your children's profiles, saved activities and progress history from our database. Backups held by our providers are cleared on their normal cycle. Emails you send us may be kept for up to 2 years for support records.
To delete your account, go to Settings > Delete Account in the app… or follow the steps on our Delete your account page, or email support@roadschooling.com.au from your account email address and we will delete it within 30 days.
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. Cancel it in your store account settings first.
Your rights
You can ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you and your children, or ask us to delete it. Most of it you can view and edit in the app. Email support@roadschooling.com.au and we will respond within 30 days.
Security
Your data is stored with Google Firebase and encrypted in transit and at rest. Each account can only read its own data, and our own systems use two-step verification. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the effective date. For significant changes, we will tell you in the app or by email.
Complaints
Contact us first at support@roadschooling.com.au and we will try to resolve it within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
